EXACTLY What I Expected This Pregnancy to Be Like

I know pregnancy is supposed to be a time of supreme glowing joy, one's entire self feeling radiant from the miracle of life growing within, but I have to ask: did anyone else out there who's ever been pregnant sometimes just feel gross? Aside from the nausea and barfing and constipation and acne and sore uterus-stabilizing muscles, I mean. Did you ever have a day where your clothes fit wrong and your hair looked wrong and your your face felt wrong? Even if you've never been pregnant and have ever felt this way (i.e., if you're a woman), I want—need, even—to hear about it. Please. Click and tell below.

  1. Yes! Especially in the mid-teen weeks where you are at now. My clothes didn't fit right, but maternity clothes were way too huge, and I just felt frumpy and unattractive. (The fact that I needed a haircut didn't help either). It's like the middle school years of pregnancy.

  2. I'm with Carrie and I'm 21 weeks. I look fatter but no real "bump" so people at work don't know yet. I wasn't that big to begin with (size 6/8 at 5'6) and the baby is apparently hiding in my "deep" pelvis, according to the nurse.

I've found that most of my skirts have elastic waists and I've been rocking them with boots and leggings...but I've felt hotter

  3. Hell yes! I've been preggo four times and had moments of wrongness with the last two. My face felt bizarre this last pregnancy. I felt like a balloon face.

  4. Are you kidding me? Did you ever have a DAY where you felt wrong? Lord, I've been feeling out of whack for some time now, but at the moment it's particularly bad. I'm on night shifts, meaning I get hardly my sleep at night, then hardly any during the day, because my body is stubborn and won't upend its circadian rhythm just because my employers order it to. So I have bags the size of my entire wardrobe under my eyes, I'm spotty and bloated, my hair stopped cooperating somewhere around Tuesday morning, and I don't seem to possess any clothes that could double up as jammies if I get the opportunity for a quick nap, while still looking reasonably professional, so Massively Frumpy it is.

God forbid I were also pregnant, because that, I imagine, would be an absolute death knell for my self esteem.

In other words, you are very much not alone.

  5. Carrie said it best: "It's the middle school years of pregnancy." I'm 22 weeks today, and feel exactly how you described more often than not. Some days though, I just force myself to put on a little eyeliner, or some super cute earrings (even if I'm in yoga pants and my husband's T-shirt) to make myself feel just a tad bit better.

  6. I feel this way most days. But, yes. Definitely while I was pregnant, and especially in the "teen weeks."

  7. What are you talking about? I'm glowing with the miracle of life growing within! How could I possibly feel anything but utterly radiant?!

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
